“For protecting and keeping Assamese identity and culture alive, come to Latasil Playground tomorrow at 11 am and assemble in a protest against CAB,” wrote singer Zubeen Garg on his Facebook wall on Wednesday.
“Mobile internet will be snapped from 7 pm today. Before that, spread the message as much as you can,” he further urged.
Assam Government on Wednesday evening issued a notification temporarily suspending mobile internet and data services in several districts of the State.
The districts where this restriction has been imposed from 7 pm are Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup (Rural).
Zubeen Garg has always maintained a strong stand against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB.
Recently the popular singer was stopped from performing in Dibrugarh by the district administration.
Garg was seen taking part in the protest on Wednesday opposite the Assam Secretariat.
“We will never accept CAB, no matter what,” Garg said while speaking during the protests.
Later, the popular singer along with his colleagues from the music fraternity took part in a protest rally organised against CAB in Guwahati.
