The NSCN-R on Thursday appreciated the political maturity shown by Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on the Indo-Naga political issue.

The outfit, in a release issued by its ministry of information and publicity, said Khandu has not only read the pulse of the Nagas of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of the state correctly but also understood how emotionally and sentimentally the Nagas are attached to the issue.

“Naga issue is a very old issue and deserves a dignified solution,” the National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Reformation (NSCN-R) said.

It said the Nagas of Tirap, Changlang and Longding along with the Nagas elsewhere, had experienced untold sufferings for the past several decades while hundreds of thousands of Naga youths, men and women had laid down their lives to protect the Nagas’ right, identity and dignity.

“Obviously, it has never been a good experience to live under Armed Forces Special Power Act,” it said.

The outfit appealed to all the leaders of different political parties in Arunachal Pradesh, civil societies, student bodies and all concerned citizens to rally behind the chief minister for peaceful solution of the long-pending Indo-Naga issue.

It said after several rounds of political negotiations, both the government of India and the Naga people have reached an understanding to resolve the issue amicably in the interest of both entities.

“Therefore, a solution is being worked out,” it said.

The outfit told all the tribes and communities of Arunachal Pradesh that whatever may be the nature of the solution, it will be for the common good of all people and communities.

It will also further strengthen the bond and brotherhood of all the residents of the state, the outfit added.
