Manipur’s woman footballer Bala Devi Ngangom has been invited for trials at Scottish Rangers Football Club (FC) in Glasgow.
Bala, who has flown to Glasgow on Tuesday for trying her luck at the trials, will sign a professional contract with Rangers FC for the 2020 season if she performs successfully at the trials.
Moreover, she will also become the first Indian woman to play fully professionally outside India if she performs well in the trials.
Cement giant Star Cement is sponsoring her for her trials for the Rangers FC.
“I am very happy to get this opportunity and look forward to travelling to Glasgow. I will do my best. I hope I can make the club and make my country proud,” said Bala.
She was the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Women’s Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
29-year-old Bala, who is currently employed with the Manipur police department, has given many successful performances in national football competitions as a player of the state women’s football team.
