Guwahati: Police seized 2.7 kilograms of opium during an operation at Amingaon on the outskirts of Guwahati, officials said.
The contraband was allegedly being transported in a truck from Manipur to Lower Assam when police intercepted the vehicle and recovered the suspected narcotic substance.
Two persons, identified as Mazarul Islam Laskar and Jeherul Islam Laskar, were detained in connection with the seizure.
According to preliminary information, the consignment originated in Manipur and was allegedly being transported to a destination in Lower Assam.
The seizure has drawn attention to the alleged movement of narcotic substances along interstate routes linking Manipur and Assam.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the source of the consignment, identify its intended recipients and establish whether others were involved in the alleged transportation network.
