Mizoram minister for higher and technical education, Dr R Lalthangliana graced the inauguration of a three-day international conference on ‘Recent Advances in Animal Sciences (ICRAAS) – 2019’ on Wednesday.

The conference is being hosted at the seminar hall of Pachhunga University College.

The conference is organized in commemoration of the diamond jubilee of the college which was celebrated last year.

The minister who was the chief guest in his address said he felt privileged to take part in the first ever international conference organized at the college.

He lauded the principal and faculties for achieving tremendous development and progress in infrastructure and academic results.

He also said Mizoram, which once had a rich wildlife population, has lost its wildlife population which has become a matter of serious concern.

He expressed hope that the conference would help find solution to address this issue as well as that of protection of environment.

A total of 132 research papers have been selected for presentation at the international conference.

Scientists from 12 states in India, from more than 30 academic and research institutions and from more than 25 disciplines under animal sciences or life sciences in broad sense, including one from Germany have registered for this ICRAAS 2019.

There are 160 registered participants, 62 faculties and scientists, 57 research scholars and 38 students.

During this three-day conference there will be 72 oral presentations in nine technical sessions and 60 poster presentations.

Selected research papers presented during the conference will also be published in WOS & SCOPUS index journal, and best presentation will be selected along with top three young presenters from scholars and students.

ICRAAS 2019 is organized by department of Zoology, PUC.

The co-organizers are Directorate of Fisheries, Directorate of Agriculture (R&D), Environment, Forest & Climate Change Departments, Mizoram University, Mizo Academy of Sciences and Mizoram Business Centre.

ICRAAS 2019 is sponsored by Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST, Government of India, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and North Eastern Council.
