Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb on Wednesday congratulated former Indian cricket captain Saurav Ganguly for taking charge as the new president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The 47-year-old cricketer, who had previously acted as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) took charge as BCCI president on Wednesday.
Deb tweeted, “I congratulate former Indian Captain Shri Sourav Ganguly (@SGanguly99) on being appointed as the new President of @BCCI on behalf of the people of Tripura. I believe Indian Cricket will reach new heights under your guidance & experience.”
After being unanimously elected as the president of BCCI, Ganguly said that he will lead the Indian cricket board the same way he led the Indian cricket team.
“No compromise on credibility, corruption-free and same for all BCCI, just as I led India,” he added.
Ganguly also said that he will fully support Virat Kohli who is the “most important man in Indian cricket.”
He is the first India cricketer after the Maharaja of Vizianagaram to become the president of the BCCI.
It may be mentioned that the decision was taken at the general body meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday after the former India captain had filed his nomination for the post last week at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai.
