One Zeliagrong United Front (ZUF) militant was killed and two others injured on Sunday night in a gun battle between the two factions of the outfit in Manipur’s Noney district.
The slain rebel has been identified as A. Pungmei. Police have sent his body to hospital for post-mortem examination.
The two injured militants were identified as Santosh and Thomas from the same district.
Armed cadres of the two factions, who were on a foot patrol in the mountain roads, had a chance encounter near Leishok village in Noney district, The Hindu reported.
Locals said said that the gun battle lasted for several minutes.
Security forces have forces rushed to the area where the encounter took place.
Police said that there had been some fatal armed encounters between the two factions in the past.
