The Sivasagar district administration has made all necessary arrangements for peaceful observation of Durga Puja and ensuing Diwali festival in the eastern Assam district.
The deputy commissioner of Sivasagar, Dr M S Lakshmi Priya has ensured arrangements of necessary road safety measures in the district as the chairperson of the district Road Safety Committee.

As per directions laid down in the W T message received from the secretary of the Transport Department on Friday last, a committee has also been formed with superintendent of police Amitava Sinha; Manali Prasad Rajak, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate; district transport officer; joint director of Health Services; and superintendent of excise as members.

The Committee will ensure adherence to traffic rules, regular checking, imposition of stringent penalties for violation of MV (Amendment) Act, 2019 and raid on illicit liquor especially during Durga Puja and ensuing Diwali festivals.
The district Transport Department has made arrangements for display of message on traffic rules, road safety measures, information on penalties under new Motor Vehicle Act on all important puja pandals.
The police have also been conducting checking on all traffic points of the district.

Extensive drives have been conducted against traffic violators, drunken driving and illicit liqour throughout the district for a safe and peaceful Durga Puja celebration.
From October 2 to 3, a total amount of Rs 1,18,400 as fine has been collected through on the spot compounding of fines and approximately 510 liters of local and foreign liquor has been destroyed.
Further awareness drives have also been carried out in the district against consumption of illicit liquor and on road safety measures.
In a message, the deputy commissioner has extended hearty greetings to the public on the occasion of Durga Puja.
The district administration has requested the public to conduct Puja in an environment friendly manner and in the form of a plastic-free Puja.
It may be noted that the district administration has instituted special prizes for the best and cleanest puja pandal.
