Tripura

Agartala: Tripura transport minister Sushanta Chowdhury has written to union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging initiation of train services connecting Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

He also urged for the commencement of train services linking Agartala in Tripura to Chittagong in Bangladesh through the recently inaugurated railway link between Agartala and Akhaura in Bangladesh.

The Agartala-Akhaura railway link, inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last November, has yet to see operational train services, lamented Chowdhury in his letter to the union railway minister.

“In your tenure, we have witnessed significant advancements in the efficiency, safety, and expansion of our railway network. I urge you to introduce passenger and freight train services from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka, and from Agartala to Chittagong utilizing the newly established rail connection between Agartala and Akhaura,” wrote Chowdhury.

Furthermore, Chowdhury pressed for the revival of the Belonia-Feni railway link, part of the proposed 14 railway connectivity projects in the Northeast.

The Tripura transport minister also called for the introduction of Agartala-Guwahati intercity train services, aiming to bolster intra-regional connectivity and facilitate smoother travel for passengers.
