Imphal: Following the deadly attack by suspected Kuki militants that claimed the lives of two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Manipur’s Naransena, a joint operation by central and state forces has resulted in the destruction of four militant bunkers and the recovery of a significant arms cache.
A joint team of security forces conducted a counter-insurgency operation (CIO) in the vicinity of Naransena, Bishnupur district, an area reportedly dominated by Kuki militants on Saturday morning.
The operation, which began around 8:00 AM, led to the destruction of four bunkers and the seizure of four sophisticated weapons, four explosives (including hand grenades), 145 rounds of live ammunition, 197 empty bullet casings, 32 projectiles, a black walkie-talkie, and two Chinese hand grenades.
The Manipur Police’s bomb disposal squad safely detonated the explosives.
The CRPF camp in Naransena came under a barrage of attacks late Friday night, lasting from midnight until 2:15 AM on Saturday. Two CRPF personnel, including Sub-Inspector N. Sarkar (55) from Kokrajhar, Assam, were killed, and two others were injured in the assault.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh strongly condemned the attack, highlighting the tragic loss of life among security personnel dedicated to maintaining peace and stability in the state.
In a social media post, the CM stated, “These actions showcase cowardice against committed security personnel who work tirelessly to uphold peace in our state. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of Kuki tribes, vehemently condemned the act of terrorism against the Central Security Forces responsible for ensuring public safety.
The KIM’s statement denounced the attack as a “mindless activity” that disregards law and order and highlights the “impunity” enjoyed by “Valley-based Insurgent Groups” under the state government.
