A stolen electric transformer has been recovered during a combing operation in Churachandpur district.

Imphal: A massive combing operation carried out by a combined team of the central and state forces led to the recovery of an electric transformer in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Wednesday, the police said.

The joint team launched the operation in response to a complaint lodged by the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) with the Phougakchao Ikhai Police station stating that unknown miscreants have lifted an electric transformer installed at Torbung Gobindpur power line/station on the intervening night of May 6 and 7 the days the locals in the areas experienced power cut due to the devastating hailstorms on May 5 afternoon across the state.

The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Churachandpur district police, based on an intelligence report, launched the cordoned and searched operations in and around Loklaiphai village under Churachandpur police station and recovered the same on Wednesday, the reports said on Thursday.

However, no arrest has been made despite the police registering a case in this connection.

The thunderstorms and hailstorms on May 5 across the state left a trail of destruction as strong winds uprooted electricity poles and big trees and damaged transformers, leading to power cuts at different parts of the state.

Taking undue advantage of the power cut, miscreants stole the electric transformer in Churachandpur district which is predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo tribes.
