From gold to bronze, India’s medal tally has been increased only by weightlifters till July 31, 2022

Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalrinnunga and Achinta Sheuli have won  3 gold medals for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022

Meanwhile, Bidyarani Devi and Sanket Mahadev Sagar have bagged silver medals and Gururaja Poojary won bronze medal in the Games which is still underway at Birmingham

Indian weightlifters got to participate for the first time in the Olympics from 1936

India also made its presence in the weightlifting discipline in the Asian Games from 1951 and in the Commonwealth Games from 1966

Another remarkable achievement of Indian weightlifting is that the first woman to bring an Olympic medal for the country was weightlifter Karnam Malleswari

Malleswari won a bronze medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics at Sydney
