Sarma, in a post on X, discussed the importance of observing Earth Hour which is an honour dedicated to Mother Earth

“#EarthHour – an hour dedicated to mother Earth. Imagine the impact of a global collective effort of switching off lights for an hour – reduced energy consumption, reduced emissions and a brighter future. Let's switch off all non-essential lights from 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM today and be a part of this global movement,” he wrote

Since our beginnings in 2007, Earth Hour has been known for the “lights off” moment, with individuals from around the globe switching off their lights to show symbolic support for the planet and to raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it

Earth Hour was launched by the Worldwide Fund (WWF) in 2007.

It aims to encourage individuals and organisations to give an hour for the Earth by switching off non-essential electric lights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm IST, as a symbol of commitment to the planet

This year the Worldwide Fund-India is celebrating Earth Hour 2025

Earth Hour 2025 falls on the same day as World Water Day. It is a fortunate convergence of two campaigns that seek to take the message of nature conservation to the masses

WWF hopes that the collective might of our action can contribute to effective water conservation and management this Earth Hour.

The organization is working towards this goal by pledging to #BeWaterWise through the year.
