Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh named as the Donyi Polo Airport

The name of the 16th airport of the northeastern region reflects the age-old reverence of the local people towards the Sun (Donyi) and Moon (Polo)

With the inauguration of Donyi Polo Airport that has been built at a cost of over Rs. 640 crore, all states of the Northeast will now be connected by air

The most attractive feature of this greenfield airport in Hollongi is the Hornbill Gate made of bamboo and cane

The gate has been designed by Arunachali architect Aroty Panyang from East Siang district

Built in an area of over 690 acres, the Donyi Polo Airport has eight check-in counters and can accommodate 200 passengers during peak hours

The 2300 metres runway is suitable for operating large, wide-bodied aircraft like Boeing 747 and is good for all weather day functions too

The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and the recycling of resources

The foundation stone of the airport was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2019

This new airport will not only improve connectivity in the region but will also act as a catalyst for the growth of trade and tourism, thus providing a boost to the economic development of the region
