COVID19 for the first time claimed the life of a journalist in Tripura on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Jitendra Debbarma, a resident of Balaramthakur Para of Jirania in West Tripura.

He worked for Chini khorang, a Kakborok channel in Tripura as a cameraman.

Ranjit Debbarma, the editor of Chini khorang, said Jitendra Debbarma had been working in their channel for the last two-and-half years and he was a very gentle and down-to-earth person.

He was also a well-known composer among the indigenous people.

Debbarma informed, โ€œJitendra was suffering from COVID19 infection for the last seven days.โ€

โ€œAs his condition turned critical this morning, he was shifted to Khumlung Hospital where he succumbed to the disease,โ€ he added.

Debbarma is survived by two minor daughters.

So far, a total of 329 people have died of COVID19 infections in Tripura.

Tripura recorded the first COVID19 death on June 8.
