The traffickers frequently use Mizoram’s porous international borders to smuggle various contraband items from Myanmar into India

Guwahati: Law enforcement agencies in Mizoram have arrested three individuals, including a Myanmar national, for possessing 128 grams of heroin valued at over Rs 2 lakh in the grey market and for smuggling areca nuts worth Rs 97.85 lakh in three separate operations.

The operations along the India-Myanmar border in Champhai district were conducted by a joint team comprising the Assam Rifles, Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department, Customs Preventive Force, and the Criminal Investigation Department’s (Crime) Special Narcotics Police Station.

The trio has been identified as Nangkhawkhupa (30) and Ruatfela (36), both residents of Aizawl, and LT Siama (39), a resident of Myanmar.

The consignment of narcotics and contraband items, along with the three accused, were later handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further legal proceedings.
