At a time when safety of women is given first preference and strong laws are enacted to protect the dignity of the women in India, a rape victim is crying for justice in Assam’s Goalpara district.
The police have taken no action even after a fortnight of the filling of an FIR at the police station.
The incident has taken place at Dorapara village under the Agia police station during the HSLC examination recently.
A woman from the Maladhora village under the Lakhipur police station whose daughter had to appear in the HSLC examination in an examination centre at Agia, took a temporary rented house at the residence of one Ajay Nath alias Ajit Nath at Dorapara village.
She cooked food for her daughter and also at the same time escorted her to the examination centre.
Already married, Ajay Nath is reportedly a gram sevak in the Panchayat & Rural Development department.
According to FIR, Ajay Nath took advantage of his wife not being at home on February 13 and raped the woman at around 11 pm.
The victim woman remained silent as the examination of her daughter was still running.
The culprit, allegedly, repeated the same act on February 26 threatening her with a sharp weapon.
He declared himself as the ‘tiger’ of Agia and claimed to have good relationship with police.
Shocked and dumbed, the woman waited for the HSLC examination to come to an end.
In the first week of March, the victim woman filed an FIR with the Agia police station clearly mentioning that Ajay Nath alias Ajit Nath had raped her.
However, to everyone’s surprise, until March 17 evening, Nath could successfully remain scot-free.
It is to be seen when the victim woman receives justice in a district being run by a lady IAS officer as the deputy commissioner.
