Assam: Protests in Dibrugarh over gate closure by AMCH

Dibrugarh: Protests erupted on Tuesday over the closure of the Alubari Line gate in Jalan Tea estate by the Assam Medical College (ACM) in Dibrugarh, Assam.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the entrance early this morning, strongly opposing the abrupt decision by the Assam Medical College administration.

During the protest, a fierce confrontation ensued between the protesters and the police, resulting in the detention of several protesters.

Following this, the police used heavy machinery (a backhoe loader) to dig up part of the entryway, completely blocking access.

To control the situation, police had to use tear gas to disperse the crowd as tensions escalated.

The incident did not stop there as protesters retaliated by throwing glass bottles, bricks, and stones at the police.

During the clashes, two journalists were injured after being struck by stones and bricks.

Additional Superintendent of Police Nirmal Ghosh was also injured during the incident.
