The Assam government is considering the holding of a common examination for appointment into various state government departments.

Assam public health and engineering minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced this on Sunday during his visit to Pathsala in Assam’s Bajali district.

During his visit to his constituency, Dass said that holding of a common examination is being considered to fill the vacancies in various departments as well as ease the process of appointment.

He said that the Assam government is determined to keep its promise of providing 1 lakh jobs to the unemployed youths in the state.

About 111 posts of junior engineers will be filled up under the Prime Minister’s flagship scheme of Jal Jiban Mission very soon.

The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) will also advertise for 171 posts of junior and assistant engineers soon.

Other common posts of various departments will be filled up through the common examination as per the advice of the chief minister.

Dass also visited the house of Sampurnananda Talukdar, an educationist, social worker, vice principal of erstwhile Bajali College and paid floral tributes at the portrait of the deceased.

He also conveyed his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members.
