Tezpur: On the 58th consecutive day of the ongoing student-led movement at Tezpur University, the campus momentarily shifted its focus from protest to a heartfelt celebration of beloved Assamese icon Zubeen Garg’s birthday.
The participants reclaimed the protest grounds in the name of “Zubeen da,” drawing strength, remembrance, and collective hope from the occasion.
Students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff gathered to pay tribute to the legend, whose music and ideals of justice, compassion, and resilience continue to inspire the nearly two-month-long movement.
A Day of Tribute and Unity
The day’s events began with a plantation drive across all university hostels, followed by a floral tribute to the artist. The evening provided a moving culmination: a cake-cutting ceremony was held in Zubeen Garg’s honor, and a diya-lighting ceremony created a profound emotional canvas.
The illuminated lamps were arranged to read “ZG 53,” commemorating the artist’s birthday.
In a moment that deeply resonated across the campus, all stakeholders—students, teachers, and non-teaching staff—united their voices in singing Zubeen da’s timeless classic, “Mayabini.”

The celebration also featured a dedicated tribute program by Nrityangan, Tezpur University’s Dance Club, honoring Zubeen Garg’s extensive artistic legacy.
