The deadly Zika virus has been detected at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. 

A 57-year-old man has been detected with the Zika virus in Kanpur. 

The man had reportedly tested positive for Zika virus on October 22. 

The patient was down with fever for the past 4-5 days. 

Following the detection of Zika virus in Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has sent a high-level experts’ team to the state. 

The experts’ team comprises of an entomologist, public health specialists and a gynaecologist.

The team will take stock of the ground situation and follow containment measures. 

Health experts from National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, National Centre for Disease Control and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi have been deployed by the Centre for containing the spread of Zika virus. 

The Zika virus is caused by a virus transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes, which bite during the day.  

The symptoms of the virus include mild fever, rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or a headache, among others.
