โ€œThe United States will continue to raise issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) with the Modi Government,โ€ said US Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback.

Meanwhile, in a big development the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), had recommended India be put into the list of โ€˜Countries of Particular Concernโ€™.

โ€˜Countries of Particular Concernโ€™ (CPC) list consists of countries with most egregious violations of religious freedoms.

The US State Department had however rejected the recommendation on India.

โ€œThe commission gave several recommendations which were not accepted and this was one of them,โ€ said Sam Brownback.

โ€œWe are closely monitoring the situation in India,โ€ he added.

Earlier, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had announce the list of โ€˜Countries of Particular Concernโ€™.

Pakistan and China along with 8 other countries โ€“ Myanmar, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were placed in the list for engaging in egregious violations of religious freedom.

The United States State Department further placed Comoros, Cuba, Nicaragua and Russia on a Special Watch List (SWL).
