Vidya Balan starrer short film on rape culture – ‘Natkhat’ has entered the Oscar race.
Vidya Balan starrer – Natkhat, is a 33-minute long short film on rape culture portrays relationship between a mother and a son, nurtured in a patriarchal home.
The short film has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Vidya Balan.
Makers of the short film – Natkhat, RSVP said that it was elated to be in the race for the Oscars 2021.
“We made Natkhat to reach every corner of the earth and tell the world that change begins at home. Elated to be in the race for the Oscars 2021 short film category!” RSVP tweeted.
‘Natkhat’ was screened at several prestigious international film festivals throughout 2020 – like Tribeca’s We Are One: A Global Film Festival, Indian Film Festival Stuttgart (Where it won the German Star of India Award), London Indian Film Festival in London and Birmingham, the South Asian Film Festival – Orlando/Florida Film Festival, and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

‘Natkhat’ was announced eligible for the Oscar 2021 qualification after it was announced as the winner at the Best of India Short Film Festival.
Besides ‘Natkhat’, 3 other Indian short films also made it to the Oscars 2021 race.
Shameless, Saving Chintu, and Tailing Pond are also in the Oscars 2021 race.
