Five shorts films from India are now eligible for nominations into the Oscars in the live action short film category at the Oscars.

Natkhat, featuring and co-produced by Vidya Balan has become eligible for a nomination at the Academy Awards.

The film was declared as the winner at the third edition of the Best of India Short Film Festival hosted by ShortsTV in October this year.

However, the other four finalists of this edition are also eligible for entry into the Oscars,  which comprise  โ€œShamelessโ€ by Keith Gomes, โ€œSound-Proofโ€ by director Aditya Kelgaonkar, โ€œSafarโ€ by Pratyusha Gupta and โ€œTrappedโ€ by Dheeraj Jindal.

Gomes and his team have confirmed that their film โ€œShamelessโ€ is the official Indian entry in this category.

โ€œBest of India Short Film Festival has established itself as a leading industry festival highlighting inimitable, original work and give Indian talents a chance to bring home an Oscar,โ€ a report quoted Carter Pilcher, chief executive of ShortsTV.

The festival provides a platform for Indian filmmakers to take their art to the Oscars and showcase their films before a global audience, he said.

This year the Film Federation of India has selected the Malayalam film โ€œJallikattuโ€ as the Indian official entry for the best international feature film category in the Academy Awards.
