Veteran Bollywood actress Shashikala is no more.

Shashikala breathed her last on Sunday (April 4) morning.

Shashikala was 88 years old at the time of her demise.

Shashikala passed away due to old-age ailment at her Colaba, Mumbai residence on Sunday.

Shashikala worked in over a hundred movies during her career in Indian cinema.

Shashikala was born in August 1932 in a Maharashtrian family belonging to Solapur.

The late actress began working at an early age to support her parents.

Shashikala was known for her work in films like Daku, Raasta and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Shashikala was also a part of the Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan-starrer Mujhse Shaadi Karoge.

Shashikala was also part of movies like – Teen Batti Char Raasta, Teen Bahuraniyan.

Some of her other films include Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Gumra, Sujata, and Aarti.

Shashikala also worked extensively in television and was a part of popular shows like Sonpari and Jeena Isi ka Naam Hai.

After having made it big in the industry by the end of the 1950s, the actress earned Filmfare awards for best supporting actress for movies Aarti and Gumrah.

Shashikala’s first breakthrough came in the 1950s when she met Noor Jehan.

With the help of Jehan, Shashikala made her Bollywood debut as a side actress in Zeenat.

Shashikala was known for playing supporting roles in the film industry.

Shashikala was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2007.

Shashikala married Om Prakash Saigal in her 20s and is survived by two daughters.

The family of the late actress is yet to issue a statement regarding her demise.
