The Council of India School Certificate Examination (CISCE) on Monday said the students of Classes X and XII can decide whether they want to appear for their pending board exams that are to be conducted in July.

Informing the decision to the Bombay High Court on Monday, the CISCE said that the students who decide to opt-out of the remaining ICSE (Class X) and the ISC (Class XII) exams will be evaluated on the basis of their internal assessment marks.

The court was listening to a petition that has been filed by a parent challenging the decision of the CISCE to conduct remaining examinations for class 10 and 12 in July this year.

According to the petitioner Arvind Tiwari, a parent of an ICSE student and also a resident of Mumbai, the CISCE board exams should be cancelled due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai.

Responding to the plea, the CISCE said that it has decided to offer all students with pending Class X and XII examinations in some subjects with two options.

Firstly, students can take the pending examinations next month as per the timetable that has been issued.

According to the new CISCE timetable, the ICSE exams will be held from July 2 to July 12 and the ISC exams will be conducted from July 1 to July 14.

The second option is that they can also choose to opt-out of the board exams following which they will be evaluated on the basis of their performances in internal assessment.

The bench, after perusing the board’s decision, posted the matter for further hearing on Wednesday.
