Shakib al Hasan, Bangladesh Test captain, on Tuesday has been slapped a ban of two years for โ€œfailing to report corrupt approachesโ€.

The all-rounder accepted three charges relating to requests for inside information for betting purposes.

Approaches to the 32-year-old cricketer were made during a tri-series match in January 2018 and that yearโ€™s Indian Premier League.

In an official statement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said, โ€œShakib said he did not act upon, provide any information or receive any money or other rewards for the approaches.โ€

โ€œShakib has been punished for failing to disclose full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conductโ€, the statement added.

โ€œI am obviously extremely sad to have been banned from the game I love, but I completely accept my sanction for not reporting the approaches,โ€ said Shakib
