The government railway police (GRP) on Tuesday seized a cash amount of Rs 4.89 lakh and 31 pairs of gold bangles at Guwahati railway station.

According to the government railway police, they recovered the huge amount of money and gold bangles after the seizure of 10 gunny bags on suspicion at the Guwahati railway station.

Two youths came to the Guwahati railway station for sending 10 gunny bags through the Indian Railways’ parcel service.

“But when the railway employees on duty at the parcel service counter of the railway station enquired in detail about the gunny bags, the two youths fled from the counter,” said a railway police officer.

Following the seizure of all the 10 gunny bags at 12 noon, the recovered money was counted.

After counting, the railway police found a total cash amount of Rs 4,88,900. After thorough checking, the railway police were also able to recover 5 kg and 100 gm of silver sticks and 31 pairs of gold bangles in two packets.

Besides, the railway police also recovered various clothes including sarees in 6 different bags.

“The investigation is on,” said the railway police official.
