Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the public to nominate personalities, who are doing exceptional work in the grassroots, for Peoples’ Padma.
Modi said the country has talented people at the grassroots but they are “not much known”.
The government has decided to honour such talented personalities, nominated by the public, with the Peoples’ Padma award.
The nominations will remain open till September 15, 2021, Prime Minister Modi informed.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said, “India has many talented people, who are doing exceptional work at the grassroots.”
“Often, we don’t see or hear much of them. Do you know such inspiring people?”
“You can nominate them for the #PeoplesPadma. Nominations are open till 15th September,” PM Modi added.

Modi’s tweet comes as the government launched an initiative to identify people, who are exceptionally working at the grassroots.
The Union home ministry has asked all central ministries, states and other awardees to identify people, whose excellence and achievements deserve to be recognised.
Prime Minister Modi on his first ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address of the year in January requested the people of the country to learn about people to learn about “unsung heroes”, who work selflessly.
PM Modi also posted a link of the Padma Awards website where people can post their nominations.
According to a government release, nominations or recommendations for Padma Awards will be received online only.
The government has also made the provision of self-nomination.
