Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22 will virtually attend the 18th Convocation of the Tezpur University to be held in Tezpur.

Assam governor and the chancellor of Tezpur University, Jagdish Mukhi will virtually preside over the Convocation and award the degrees and diplomas to the graduating students.

The university will award degrees and diplomas to a total of 1218 students in the Convocation, of which 371 are undergraduate students, 725 postgraduate students, 36 postgraduate diploma students and 86 students pursuing Ph.D.

The university will award gold medals to 48 toppers in various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

According to sources, the Convocation is being held following all Covid-19 protocols.

Only the Ph.D. scholars and toppers will receive their degrees and gold medals in person and the university will award the remaining students with their degrees and diplomas virtually.

Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Lok Sabha MP Pallab Lochan Das will also attend the programme.
