Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condoled the death of people, who were killed after a mechanised boat   capsized in Brahmaputra near Ashwaklanta temple in North Guwahati here.

Expressing grief over the boat tragedy in Brahmaputra here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi twitted, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the capsizing of a boat near Guwahati in Assam. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The State Government is working actively on the rescue operations and ensuring all possible support on the ground.”

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also lamented the death of the passengers of the boat in the watery tragedy.

“Anguished at the loss of precious lives due to capsizing of a boat in Brahmaputra River near Guwahati. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased,” Singh twitted.

Home Minister Singh spoke to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and took stock of the search and rescue operation.

“Spoke to the Chief Minister of Assam Shri @sarbanandsonwal who apprised me of the details pertaining to boat capsizing tragedy. The state agencies & @NDRFHQ teams are conducting the search and rescue operations,” Singh said in another Tweet.
