With the new variant of coronavirus getting out of control in the United Kingdom, the Centre has called for an emergency meeting of its Joint Monitoring Group on Monday.
The meeting has been called by the Union Health Ministry to discuss the mutated variant of coronavirus that has hit the United Kingdom, forcing it to enforce highest tier of restrictions.

From Sunday 20 December, some areas in England will enter Tier 4: Stay At Home.

Fresh lockdown has already been enforced in London and southeast England, with the British Government scrapping plans of relaxations during Christmas in a bid to control this new “fast-spreading” variant of coronavirus.
“Given the early evidence we have on this new variant of the virus, and the potential risk it poses, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you we cannot continue with Christmas as planned,” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

Several European countries including Belgium and the Netherlands have suspended flights from the UK as the British Government warned that the potent new strain of the virus was “out of control”.
Notably, traces of this ne coronavirus variant has also been detected in The Netherlands, Denmark, Australia and South Africa.
According to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, this new coronavirus variant is up to 70 percent “more transmissible”.
Meanwhile, it is yet to be ascertained if the recently released vaccines in the UK are effective against the new coronavirus variant.
