Taliban co-founder Mullah Baradar is likely to lead the new government in Afghanistan.

The formation of the new government in Afghanistan will be announced soon.

Mullah Baradar currently heads the political office of the Taliban.

Baradar will be joined by Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob and Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai in senior positions in the government.

“All the top leaders have arrived in Kabul, where preparations are in final stages to announce the new government,” a Taliban official told Reuters, on condition of anonymity.

The Taliban on August 15 stormed into Afghan capital Kabul and wrested power of the country overthrowing the previous Ashraf Ghani government.

A 20-year-long ‘bloody’ Afghanistan war came to an end, with the United States completing its evacuation from the war-ravaged country on August 31.

The US-led forces invaded Afghanistan in 2001, soon after the 9/11 massacre and overthrew the then Taliban administration.
