Demanding the immediate release of KMSS leader Akhi Gogoi, CPM politburo member Nilutpal Basu on Thursday alleged that the Centre is using arm tactics to douse the democratic protest.
“Akhil Gogoi was protesting democratically. But the government do not have any other option except to arrest him with no genuine cases,” said Basu.
Basu added that every individual and organisation has the right to organise the democratic protest.
“The government is using all illegal tactics to douse such democratic movements,” said Basu.
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) leader Akhi Gogoi was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the UAPA Act.
He also lashed out at the Centre for passing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
The nationwide strike called by the left parties entered its second day on Thursday.
“We have called for a weeklong strike against the assault on our Constitution (CAA/NRC/NPR),” Basu said.
