Former chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board, Jitendra Narayan Tyagi alias Wasim Rizvi was arrested in connection with the controversial Dharam Sansad where several hate speeches against a particular community were made.

Rizvi is the first person to be arrested in connection with the case.

The arrest was made just a day after the Supreme Court sought a response from the Uttarakhand government regarding what steps were taken in connection with the hate speeches.

He was arrested from the Narsain area which is near the UP and Uttarakhand border.

Tyagi alias Rizvi as per the police has been booked under the Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code for “promoting disharmony, enmity or feelings of hatred”.

Other accused persons in the case have been sent notices regarding the case.
