India has lifted the SAFF Championship title for the eight time at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives.

India drubbed Nepal 3-0 to win eighth SAFF Championship title at Male in Maldives on Saturday.

Sunil Chhetri (49th minute), Suresh Singh (50th) and Sahal Abdul Samad (90th) scored for India.

Meanwhile, 37-year-old Sunil Chhetri equalled Messi to become the second highest goal-scorer in international football among active players. 

The SAFF Champhionship final was the 12th for India in 13 editions. 

“It feels good to come here as the dominant side and win. It was not easy but I am happy that a lot of youngsters came good,” said Chhetri after the victorious run in Male.

Sunil Chhetri probably played his last SAFF Championship match on Saturday.

Sunil Chhetri scored the opening goal for India in the 49th minute of the match, equaling Lionel Messi’s tally of 80 international goals.

On the other hand, Suresh Singh doubled the lead in the 50th minute to pave the way for India’s triumph.

In the final minutes, Sahal Abdul Samad made it 3-0 as he dribbled past a few Nepal defenders in the 90th minute.
