Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said the Centre has decided to repeal the 3 farm laws only because of the upcoming elections.

She said the Modi government has taken the decision to withdraw the farm laws as it had understood that they would face reverses in the upcoming elections.

“We will have to understand that the government decided to change its decision only after recent surveys showed that it was slipping,” Priyanka Gandhi said.

The farmers’ organisations are yet to call off their agitation.

Priyanka said, “The farmers have been called names like ‘aatankwadi’, ‘andolanjeevi’, ‘gundey’, and ‘deshdrohi’. Why should they trust the government so blindly in a minute? Besides, the government has the option of bringing an ordinance so why is it waiting for the Parliament session?”

The Congress leader further said she was happy that the government had finally realised the strength of farmers and also the fact that no one is greater than the farmers.

She has demanded the dismissal of the Union minister allegedly involved in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

“The minister involved in the Lakhimpur incident should be dismissed. Other problems of farmers like MSP, shortage of fertilizer and other such issues, should also be addressed,” Priyanka said.

She said she was also happy that the entire opposition had stood by the farmers during their agitation.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi described the Centre’s announcement to repeal 3 farm laws as a
victory against injustice, and said arrogance had to bow its head before the peaceful ‘satyagrah’ of farmers.

“Country’s ‘annadatas’ (food providers) have made arrogance bow its head through
satyagraha,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

“Congratulations on this victory against injustice! ‘Jai Hind, Jai Hind ka Kisan’,” he added.
