Delhi, which is one of the worst-hit states in India, reported 24,000 new Covid19 positive cases in the last 24 hours.
The national capital registered 141 Covid19 deaths in the last 24 hours which is the highest single-day toll in Delhi, said a media report.
The Delhi government announced a weekend curfew with effect from 10 pm on Friday. Except those, who have a valid emergency or fall in an exempted category, can’t step out of their houses till 5 am on Monday.
This weekend, Delhi Metro network will have 1,600 train trips daily as against nearly 5,000 daily trips on a usual weekend.
According to the Union health ministry, India’s daily new cases continued to rise and 2,34,692 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.
Ten states including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan report 79.32% of the new Covid19 cases.
Maharashtra reported the highest daily new Covid19 cases at 63,729.
It is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 27,360 while Delhi reported 19,486 new cases, the Union health ministry said at 11 am on Saturday.
India’s cumulative recoveries stood at 1,26,71,220 in the morning on Saturday.
The national recovery rate is 87.23% while 1,23,354 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours.
A total of 1,341 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
“Ten states account for 85.83% of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties (398), followed by Delhi with 141 daily deaths,” the Union health ministry said in its report in the morning on Saturday (April 17, 2021).
