After a resurge in Covid19 positive cases in Jorhat district, 12 policemen tested positive out of the total 23 positive cases found on Saturday.

A source said all the policemen found positive for Covid19 were among those, who were recently deputed on election duty to the Barak Valley and Lower Assam districts during the second and third phases of polling conducted earlier this month.

The polling for the second and third phases of the Assam Assembly election 2021 was held on April 1 and 6.

The 12 people found positive were among 218 policemen, who were tested from across the district, the official said, adding that all the Covid19 positive personnel have been kept under home quarantine.

The total number of Covid19 positive cases has increased to 12,476 out of which 81 are active.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati informed on Saturday evening that among the 23 positive cases found on the day, 12 were policemen.

She stated that altogether 1,592 people were tested out of which 142 were RT-PCR tests and rest were RAT.

Korati informed that 17 Covid19 positive cases were found through RAT while six positive were detected after carrying out RT-PCR test.

The number of Covid19 deaths stands at 72 till date.
