The Special Task Force (STF) of Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a hardcore Bangladeshi criminal, who was awarded a death sentence in a kidnapping and murder case in the neighbouring country.

Police said acting on a tip-off, a team of STF apprehended the accused, identified as Masum, from Khanpur T-Point in Delhi.

One country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

An FIR has been lodged in this regard, police said.

Police said Masum was illegally staying in India for the last several years.

It was in 2005, Masum along with his other associates kidnapped one Jahidul Islam from his mobile shop in Madhya Nalbunia Bazar in Bangladesh.

Later they murdered him.

Islam’s mutilated body was found in the Nalbunia fields the next day.

All the accused were arrested by the Bangladesh Police.

After the trial in 2013, the additional session judge of Bagerhat (Bangladesh) found the accused, Masum, guilty and sentenced him to death.

The other four accused were acquitted by the court.

After the court verdict, Masum managed to get bail and entered India illegally.

After he escaped from the clutches of security forces, authorities in Bangladesh contacted Indian security agencies and shared details of Masum.

On several occasions earlier, Delhi Police apprehended several criminals from different locations of the national capital.
