With a record single-day case of 30,000 fresh infections in the country, COVID-19 cases in India reached to 9,68,876 on Thursday, the union health ministry said.
Further, the death toll climbed to 24,915 with 606 people succumbing to the disease.
It may be mentioned here that the country saw a record increase of 32,695 COVID-19 cases in a day.
Maharashtra (7,975), Tamil Nadu (4,496), Karnataka (3,176), Andhra Pradesh (2,432), Uttar Pradesh (1,659), Delhi (1,647), Telangana (1,597), West Bengal (1,589) and Bihar (1,328) contributed around 80 per cent of the single-day spike.
The number of recoveries stands at 6,12,814, while there are 3,31,146 active COVID-19 cases in the country
Of the 606 deaths, 233 are from Maharashtra, 86 from Karnataka, 68 from Tamil Nadu, 44 from Andhra Pradesh, 41 from Delhi, 29 from Uttar Pradesh, 20 from West Bengal, 11 each from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana, 10 from Gujarat and nine from Madhya Pradesh
Moreover, deaths were also reported from Punjab (8), Haryana (7), Assam (6), Bihar (6), Rajasthan (5), Odisha (3), Puducherry (3), Jharkhand (2), Chandigarh (1), Kerala (1), Tripura (1), Dadra and Nagar Haveli (1) and Daman and Diu (1).
