COVID-19 havoc: Total lockdown announced in Jharkhand

Following unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases in the country, a total lockdown has been announced in Jharkhand.

An 8-day lockdown has been ordered by the State Government in Jharkhand.

Lockdown in Jharkhand will come into force at 6:00 am on April 22 (Thursday) and will continue till 6pm on April 29.

The announcement has been made by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday.

The lockdown in Jharkhand may get extended further after observing the COVID-19 situation in the State.

Lockdown has been announced in Jharkhand following demands from political and non-political organisations in the State.

Essential services will be exempted during the 8-day lockdown in Jharkhand.

All offices, barring those of the central and state government along with some other private offices identified by the Government, will also remain closed.

“To break the chain of coronavirus, we have decided to observe ‘Swasthya Suraksha Saptah’ from April 22 to April 29 under which all the shops and business establishments will remain closed except those selling essential items,” Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren said.

“Though religious places will remain open all over the State, there will be a restriction on the entry of devotees,” CM Soren said.

On Monday, a six-day lockdown was also announced in Delhi.

Notably, India on Tuesday reported 2.59 lakh COVID-19 cases, pushing the overall tally to 1.53 crore.

A record 1,761 new COVID-19 fatalities were also reported in 24 hours across the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed the States to ramp up testing, lab infrastructure, strict enforcement of COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
