Assam COVID-19 crisis: Only 50 percent students allowed to attend schools physically for Class 6 to 12

In view of the massive spike in number of COVID-19 cases in Assam, the State Government has issued a fresh directive for students and schools in the State.

The fresh guidelines, issued by the Assam Secondary Education Department, has directed the schools, holding classes between Standard 6 to 12, to allow only 50 percent physical attendance of students.

These fresh directives will be applicable for schools in districts that have reported over 100 COVID-19 cases.

“In respect to the Classes VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI and XII, Classes will be conducted with fifty percent (50%) attendance in class,” the notification of the Assam Secondary Education Department read.

“In each class comprising of sections with average fifty students, Roll numbers 1 to 25 shall attend School on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the students with Roll Numbers 26 to 50 in each section from each class will attend on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday,” the notification further read.

“Online mode of teaching should be adopted as far as possible,” the notification added.

In regards to Colleges and Universities, situated in districts where active COVID-19 cases have crossed the 100-mark, “not more than 50 percent students should attend the institutions in person on any day”.

This fresh order from the Assam Secondary Education Department has come into force on Tuesday and will remain in force up to May 8 or until further orders.
