The Centra has taken a landmark decision to provide reservation for OBCs and the economically weaker section in the all India quota scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental courses.

The central government has decided to provide 27% reservation for the OBCs and 10% reservation for tyhe economically weaker section in the medical/dental courses from the current academic year.

While informing about the decision of the central government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said: “Our Government has taken a landmark decision for providing 27% reservation for OBCs and 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Section in the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental courses from the current academic year.”

Prime Minister Modi said the decision “will immensely help thousands of our youth every year get better opportunities and create a new paradigm of social justice in our country.”

In an earlier tweet, Prime Minister Modi said:  “On this day last year, India took a monumental step ahead in the education sector by introducing the National Education Policy.”

“The aim of this policy was transforming education sector and placing it at par with world-class systems which bring out the best in our students,” PM Modi said.

“This decision would benefit every year nearly 1,500 OBC students in MBBS and 2,500 OBC students in postgraduation and also around 550 EWS students in MBBS and around 1000 EWS students in postgraduation,” the Union health ministry said.

“The OBC students from across the country shall now be able to take benefit of this reservation in AIQ Scheme to compete for seats in any State,” the Health ministry said.

“Being a Central Scheme, the Central List of OBCs shall be used for this reservation. Around 1500 OBC students in MBBS and 2500 in postgraduation will be benefitted through this reservation,” the ministry further added.

The decision of the Centre is the reflection of the Modi-led NDA government’s commitment to provide due reservation for backward and EWS category students.
