Bangladesh on Friday has advised India not to ponder over the increasing relations with China in recent times.

According to agencies reports, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said the cooperation with Beijing by Dhaka was meant only for the country’s development and it has nothing for New Delhi to worry about.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister told a delegation of Indian journalists on a visit to the neighbouring country, that Bangladesh government is only concerned about development and well-being of that country.

Hasina further said apart from India, countries like China, Japan and even middle east countries are extending cooperation to Bangladesh. ”

The Bangladeshi Prime Minister also suggested that India should have ‘good relations’ with its neighbours, including Bangladesh, so that the region could be developed further, according to agencies reports.

Hasina went on to state that Bangladesh and India shared very good relations and the two neighbours have ‘set an example’ of solving bilateral issues like maritime and boundary disputes.

“If there is any issue of dispute, we can settle it through negotiations like all previous occasions. We want to build a peaceful and strong South Asia,” Hasina has said.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh and China are working on furthering defence relations including ‘broadening of personnel training and cooperation in equipment technology’.

Earlier, China has assured Bangladesh of a low-interest loan of 9 billion dollars for six rail projects, including one which is close to the Indian border.

The Bangladeshi Prime Minister also sought India’s support and cooperation in pushing back over one million Rohingyas to Myanmar, saying security issues would arise soon.

The Indian delegation of media persons include journalists from Kolkata and New Delhi who are on a visit to Bangladesh to participate in a three-day bilateral media dialogue.
