Bangladesh health authorities have approved Covid19 vaccine CoronaVac for emergency use in the country.
Covid19 vaccine CoronaVac is produced by Chinese company Sinovac Biotech.
According to a media report, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) has given the approval for the vaccine.
As per a DGDA statement issued on Sunday, the approval has been given following an application submitted by M/S Incepta Vaccine Limited, the local agent of the vaccine, on June 3.
The vaccine can be administered among people aged 18 years and above, according to DGDA.
It has been reported that two-dose vaccine will be inoculated within two to four weeks of the first jab.
The preservation temperature of the Covid19 vaccine ranges between 2 degree C and 8 degree C.
On Friday, the Chinese authorities had approved emergency use of the Sinovac vaccine in people aged between 3 and 17.
The report said Sinovac has completed Phase II clinical trial.
The World Health Organization (WHO) approved the Sinovac vaccine for emergency use last week.
WHO stated that the vaccine prevented symptomatic disease in 51% of those vaccinated and prevented severe symptoms and hospitalisation in 100% of samples.
The Sinovac Covid19 vaccine is the fifth one approved by the DGDA in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh earlier approved Pfizer-BioNTech on May 27, China’s Sinopharm on April 29, Russia’s Sputnik V on April 27 and Covishield from India on January 7.
