Bordumsa: As Arunachal Pradesh inches closer to its assembly elections, the political temperature in the Diyun Bordumsa constituency of Changlang district is rising. The entry of new aspirants from various parties vying for the coveted seat has heightened the activity within the constituency.
While aspiring candidates across parties lobby their respective high commands for the coveted ticket, interesting developments are unfolding at the grassroots level. Regular meetings held by electorates themselves showcase their unwavering support for the incumbent MLA, Somlung Mossang, seeking his re-election.
Reports suggest that Chakma communities in Diyun, including Udaipur-1, Moitripur, Dumpani, Gautampur, and Udaipur-II, have solidified their support for Mossang through extensive village-level meetings.
Similarly, the Adivasi community in Bordumsa held an urgent meeting on Monday, expressing their desire for Mossang’s continuation based on his inclusive development initiatives and positive impact during his tenure.
Mossang, who is currently camping at Itanagar, took to social media on Thursday to express his gratitude to supporters in nearly ten villages for organizing awareness talks. These combined household meetings in Diyun are seen as efforts to build a strong emotional connection with the electorate and solidify Mossang’s position in the upcoming election.
According to Bohon Bo, a local political leader, hundreds from various parties are reportedly ready to join the Mossang camp. This grassroots movement, initiated in his absence, highlights the MLA’s popularity and leadership qualities, as attested to by prominent community leaders.
N. Lawang, a descendant of the Royal Nocte clan, stated, “The community leaders initiating these meetings in the MLA’s absence speak volumes about his leadership.”
Romesh Gogoi, an Ahom leader, added, “People here value a performing leader, irrespective of party affiliation, and Mossang has earned their trust.”
Mukut Hajong, a Hajong leader, remarked, “These spontaneous efforts by the people, while the leader is away, speak volumes about his popularity and personality.”
However, amidst this strong support, whispers of internal division within the Bordumsa-Diyun BJP unit raise questions about the party’s ticket allocation. Who will ultimately win the nomination and face off against Mossang remains to be seen.
