Chennai Police has arrested six youths for allegedly using a machete to cut a birthday cake.
As per reports, the arrested youths have been identified as Sunil (19), Naveen Kumar (19), Appu (18), Dinesh (19), Rajesh (18), and Kartik alias Beedi.
The youths celebrated the birthday of Sunil in the housing board quarters of Kannagi Nagar in Chennai.
After ordering a birthday cake, the youths had made Sunil cut it with a machete and had also recorded the celebrations and posted it on social media, say media reports.
The video went viral and a case was registered against them by the police based on the complaint by one Yageshwaran of Kannagi Nagar.
After tracking the suspects, the police arrested them and booked them for wielding a deadly weapon.
They were also been booked for creating a public nuisance as they had played loud music during the celebrations.
A number of youths were apprehended in Chennai after they have started celebrating birthdays by cutting cakes with machetes and sickles.
The trend became popular in the city after history-sheeter Binu was arrested a couple of years ago when he was cutting his birthday cake with a machete.
In January this year, actor Vijay Sethupathi raised controversy after pictures of him cutting his birthday cake with a sword went viral on social media.
However, the actor later issued an apology for his immature act.
