At least 3 terrorists were gunned down, while one surrendered following a fierce encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sophian on Thursday morning. 

The security forces conducted an operation after receiving information about the presence of the terrorists there. 

“The forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in Kanigam area of Sophian in the night after getting information about the presence of the terrorists there,” a police official said. 

“Four newly recruited local terrorists of Al-Badr terror outfit were trapped in Kanigam area of Shopian. Exercising maximum restraint, Police and security forces tried their best to persuade them to surrender,” police said.

“Turning down the surrender offer, trapped terrorists fired and lobbed grenade on joint search party,” police added. 

The security forces retaliated that ensued in an encounter. 

However, during the course of the encounter one of the terrorists surrendered before the security forces while three others were killed.

“One newly recruited terrorist namely Tausif Ahmad surrendered,” police said. 

“3 terrorists have been killed,” the police added.
