The MLAs staged a sit-in protest at Safdar Hasmi Chowk in Siliguri.

The legislators claimed that they maintained all COVID19 protocols during the protest and said there was no gathering at the protest site.

Coming down heavily on the BJP MLAs, senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Goutam said the legislators “betrayed” the people of the region by organizing a sit-in demonstration during the lockdown.

The report quoted Goutam as saying: “Let people see the real face of BJP leaders, who are least bothered about containing the spread of the deadly virus. They only believe in politicizing crisis situations.”

The TMC leader said the Bengal government is doing everything possible to fight against the Covid19 pandemic.

A 15-day lockdown came into force in West Bengal with effect from Sunday.

The West Bengal government on Saturday made the announcement for a complete lockdown for a fortnight from 6 am on May 16 to 6 pm on May 30.

The Bengal government also imposed a night curfew, which will be observed every night from 9 pm to 5 am, beginning on Sunday night.
